Unifying table culture: Porcelain KAYA by MAOMI
12 o'clock sharp. Lunch break. The heat of early summer hangs over the craft workshop. The chef rings the gong and the 80 or so employees sit down in small groups on low chairs. Bowls of sauces are passed around. The air smells of rice, fresh basil and mint. People are talking and laughing. We worked together on our KAYA porcelain for four weeks and have finished developing it. Now we are sitting barefoot with the team and drinking tea.
Lightness in feel and form – created from kaolin, quartz and feldspar
KAYA: this is a handcrafted series of plates, cups and bowls made of high-quality porcelain. Heavy and valuable in shape with a fine lip. Each piece is unique and the edition is limited.
In matte sand tones and finely glossy water pebble colors, the series offers a total of five plate sizes, two different cups and three bowl variants. The porcelain is glazed by hand and is available in the colors eggshell, greige-ecru and shiny white.
Fineness and elegant lines: To achieve this, we discussed and tested the details and production techniques for KAYA with the company boss and the technical director in Vietnam using our prototypes. Thao, who mixes the glazes, achieved the exact color nuances with her experience, joy and precision.
Porcelain is more than just a craft in Vietnam. It is also an attitude to life.
