LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2024 nomination for artist emmanuel boos
Not long ago we were proud to reveal the secret of the artist behind the conception of the wall installation HOOKS and the stoneware ELEPHANT FEET: emmanuel boos is a multi-award-winning porcelain artist who has been exploring the spheres of ceramics and their glazes for decades, and whose work represents the starting point of the MAOMI products, which have been awarded the German Design Award.
Born in France in 1969, boos discovered his passion for pottery as a teenager. After spending several years in China and South Korea, he was chosen to be a master student by the Maître d'art Jean Girel in France. From Girel he learned the secret processes of porcelain and high-temperature glazes. For boos, however, working with ceramics went beyond craftsmanship, and he later attended the Royal College of Art in London, where he received a PhD in artistic practice.
Despite extensive training and mastery, today he creates perfection through imperfection. The unforeseen, lively and elusive, which determines the character of the ceramic glaze, ultimately becomes what touches us with its naturalness and authenticity.
As a master of his element, emmanuel boos has now been nominated for the highly prestigious LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2024 for his outstanding work. 30 works were selected from almost 4000 submitted works from 124 countries.
In his project, functionality and fragility merge to create a coffee table made from bricks of glazed porcelain. The individual brick elements can be removed from the structure individually. The deep Tenmoku glaze of the porcelain contrasts with the playful fragility of the individual brick castings.
The LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2024 recognizes and supports international artisans of any age or gender who demonstrate an exceptional ability to create objects of high aesthetic value. It aims to underline the continuous contribution of craftsmanship to the culture of our time by honoring artisans who understand how to reinterpret existing knowledge in innovative ways, bringing their personal language and individual style to the table.
We congratulate Emmanuel Boos on his more than deserved nomination and wish him every success at the awards ceremony on May 14th in Paris. We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks for the artistic conception and enrichment that brought HOOKS and ELEPHANT FEET to life!
